9. Mudras in Motion-Interactive Design Using Machine Learning
Mudras in Motion is an interactive design that uses Wekinator, incorporating Mudras hand gestures inspired by traditional dance movements from India as machine learning input. For the output, data transferred from Wekinator, Processing, and Arduino controls robot arms inspired by the motion of a peacock's wings. Combining all the elements, creates the cyber-physical system design.
Besides aiming to develop an interactive robotic arm using Wekinator for the machine learning, we wanted to learn a maximum. Experimenting was at the centre of our process. We also aimed to design beautiful motion to potentially be exhibited by the Alec Robertson of the Design Education Trust. We found inspiration in birds' movements and dance. We tried a variety of mechanisms and settled on the movement of the peacock's tail and of wings. As a machine learning input, we chose to use Mudras hand-gestures, which are dance movements from India.
